Cold porcelain is a popular material in handicraft, which, thanks to its flexibility in processing, allows you to create beautiful gizmos. The first products from this material appeared at the beginning of the XIX century, and to this day cold porcelain does not lose its relevance. Real craftsmen create from it excellent decor, jewelry, souvenirs, charming bouquets, which no young lady can resist. This type of needlework brings a lot of pleasure, excellently develops imagination, a sense of beauty, and also causes a feeling of complete satisfaction from the result.
Features of the material and work with it
Cold porcelain is a sought-after material for handicraft, allowing you to make the most beautiful jewelry and crafts. Although outwardly the products are very similar to ceramic ones, in fact they differ quite a lot from them in their characteristics. Cold porcelain is afraid of both conditions of high humidity and direct sunlight, strong overheating, so the location of the products must be chosen taking into account these features. For the product to last as long as possible, it is better to cover it with varnish - then it will be less exposed to the vagaries of the microclimate.
Handmade material can be purchased at the store. If you didn’t succeed, do not despair, as you can easily do it yourself. To make the “dough” correctly, you will need the following ingredients, selected in the right amounts: rice or corn starch, PVA glue, glycerin, cream (it’s best to take a baby) and citric acid for strength. Glue with starch are mixed in equal proportions 1: 1. There is added a mass of glycerin and cream, obtained from a ratio of 2: 1, and acid. Thoroughly mixed raw materials must be allowed to infuse for a quarter of an hour, then you can begin to work. The material must be used at a time - it will be unsuitable for subsequent sculpting.
To get a color product, you can initially add paint to the mass or paint the finished figure a day after modeling. The work does not require special tools, it is important that you have scissors and an adhesive on hand, and other accessories (toothpicks, wires, paints, brushes, beads, etc.) are added as necessary.
Cold Porcelain Crafts for Beginners
The flexibility of the material to processing makes it possible to create a wide variety of products and crafts. How difficult and elegant they are will depend to a large extent on the modeling skills. Real masters are able to create stunning masterpieces, many of which are then used as functional household items. Beginners should gain mastery on simpler crafts, examples of which we will give later.
Sakura flowers
The most popular products are flowers. To make a beautiful tender twig of sakura, which will be a worthy decoration of the interior of the living room, you will need three colors of porcelain - green and two others for the petals of buds (optional).
First you need to combine the white and pink material and form a bar, which is then cut with scissors into small fragments (see photo). From them, it is necessary to form petals that are glued in the shape of a bud. We puncture the finished flower with a toothpick and thread the wire through it. Next, we form green sepals and glue them to the composition.
The main flower is ready. It can be decorated with decorative pestles, beads, etc.Artificial flowers can decorate the room’s interior, make a spectacular wall panel, make stunning pendants or wardrobe decorations.
Cold porcelain rosettes
There are several ways to make beautiful buds from cold porcelain. First you need to choose the core on which the flower will be formed - it can be a hairpin, toothpick, wire, etc. Also, scissors, preferably manicure, are needed for work, since it is more convenient to cut small details, glue and a brush, dough from cold porcelain red, pink or any other desired color, as well as green material for forming leaflets.
Since the manufacturing methods are somewhat different from each other, additional accessories may be needed: a ready-made template for the petals or a pencil with cardboard for its creation. When everything is ready, you can begin to work by following the step-by-step instructions presented below. Cold porcelain roses are an excellent material for creating bouquet compositions, jewelry, souvenirs, etc.
Decorative cup
Since, as we have already noted, our material is afraid of temperature extremes, we will take a regular cup. Next, you need cold porcelain of various shades, from which we form the main details of the composition - roses. They will need five pieces of different colors and sizes. You will also need to make petals from light green pastry.
We begin to collect the composition: we roll out a dark green stain and stick it on a cup - this is the basis. Then roses and petals are alternately glued to it. Then you need to form small blue flowers from the cut out "droplets" of material and form yellow centers in it.
Cold porcelain photo frame
A beautiful photo frame can become not only a magnificent decoration of a room, but also a first-class gift made with one's own hand. Such a present will surely please the birthday man, and for the master he will become a real subject of pride.
Initially, you need to acquire the basis - to purchase a finished frame in the store or cut out of plywood, cardboard. Next - it's up to the imagination. It is better to first draw on paper a draft of the future crafts, and then sculpt the necessary details - these can be flowers, sea pebbles, shells and other details.
It is not difficult to mold seashells if you use silicone forms (molds). They can also be blinded independently. The following photo shows some examples of how this can be done. By the way, from such elements you can assemble a beautiful bracelet or keychain.
Cold Porcelain Wickerwork
If you already have behind you the experience of sculpting various crafts made of cold porcelain, we suggest proceeding to more complex products and compositions. You can make your own beautiful decor for the living room, kitchen or other room using the weaving method, for example, a nice basket, which can then be filled with a bouquet or fake fruit. So, for work, we need cold porcelain painted in brown tone, a knife, a small piece of durable wire for the handle and a container that will serve to form the frame. Next, we do everything in order:
1. Roll out the porcelain, turning it into a thin (not more than 2 mm in diameter) rod, which is then cut into pieces of the same length.
2. Glue the segments on the base, pressing and gluing their ends in the center of the bottom, trim to the same length.
3. Roll out a flat circle and seal the base of the future basket, cutting off the protruding fragments.
4. When the workpiece dries, turn it over, remove the base and start weaving using the remaining rolled rod, as shown in the photo.
5. When the basket formation is completed, you can separately braid the pigtail and stick it as a rim, and also “cover” the inner bottom with a flat circle of material.
6.We take a metal wire and bend it in the shape of a handle, wrap it with a thin sausage made of cold porcelain and attach it to the basket. Craft is ready!
In this way, you can weave various products: vases, saucers and entire services, which will become a real pride of the owners of the house and a great gift.
