Crafts from Plastic Bottles: 70+ Decor Ideas

From the school curriculum, we remember that plastics decompose for a very long time. In particular, a plastic bottle will take as long as 100 years to complete this process! But we know something else: if you apply a little imagination, a few improvised tools and a lot of plastic bottles, you can get original and interesting decorations for your home or garden. Exceptional benefits - both for humans and for the environment!

Planter Piglets

We begin our acquaintance with crafts from plastic containers from cute piglets. They will look great in your garden, besides, they are very easy to make. You can use these cute pigs as pots for summer flowers or as an element of decor. This craft will revive your garden or flowerbed, and especially pigs in the yard will be happy for children.

Prepare the necessary materials. You will need:

1. Five-liter vessels. Their number should correspond to the desired population of piglets;
2. Bottles of 0.5 liters. 4 pieces for each craft;
3. Knife and glue;
4. Paint red, pink or white.

You need to wash and dry the containers. If there are labels on them, they should be removed, otherwise they will ruin the final appearance of the product. Cut a hole at the top to plant flowers there. But if you need a garden sculpture, then skip this step. Smaller bottles will be the legs of your new garden friend. Cut them approximately in half.

Glue the legs. Gently press them to the body and hold until the glue is taken. We do the same with the second pair. When everything is dry - go to the ears. You can make the size and shape arbitrary, it will only give your animal uniqueness. In the same way we attach ears.

So you have reached the most creative stage - painting. Acrylic paint is best suited, because it fits perfectly on plastic and does not lose its brightness for a very long time. You can use either pink, more natural color, or any other. You need to paint over the outside, but as carefully as possible so that the plastic does not shine through. Any additional details will only decorate your pig. It can be eyes and a tail. Eyes can be made from any material or bought in a store.

Butterflies

These handmade jewelry are perfect for both the interior and the garden. For this craft, you can use any vessels. You will also need scissors, felt-tip pens, various nail polishes, pins and sparkles.

Cut off the neck and bottom of the container so that only the middle remains. Divide it in half - you get a kind of plastic sheet.

Now prepare the template. You can draw it on a piece of paper or print a picture of a butterfly you like. To keep the stencil well on the plastic, you can fix it with clothespins or paper clips. Circle the part outline with a marker or felt-tip pen; a poorly erasable marker is best suited. Remove the stencil and cut the workpiece along the contour. You need to bend butterfly wings up.

Paint the decoration inside. Let each layer dry completely, this will evenly apply nail polish to the product. Varnish is a good option for coloring, as it has many color variations and a thin, comfortable brush.

To give a brighter look, use glitter and glue or glitter varnish. To make your butterfly voluminous, you can stick beads or decorative glass stones on it. Use a pin as a mount.It is easy to fix with a second glue.

Peacock

As an original decoration, you can make a peacock from plastic bottles. It will look great on the site and delight you every day. Unlike other crafts, it’s not easy to complete a peacock, but the result will definitely please you.

The number of bottles will depend entirely on the size you choose. You need to prepare a little more tanks for stock, since some parts may not work the first time.

The neck, head and body are best made from polystyrene foam, this material is easy to cut. To make the tail, take a piece of old linoleum.

To connect the parts you will need: an awl, copper or any other soft wire, adhesive tape and glue. Additionally, you can use a medium size stapler and nails. You can make a peacock with foil and acrylic paints. You will need these materials at the end of the work.

Complete the blanks. Start cutting out the torso, feathers, tail and wings. This will save a huge amount of time when assembling the figure, plus everything, you can finally determine the amount of material needed.

- The main part, on which the main parts will subsequently be attached, is the body. Cut the head, neck and torso out of the foam. You can make a figure as a whole or in parts, which are subsequently connected with glue.

- Feathers will have different lengths. For them, you will need containers of different sizes. This is one of the most difficult stages, since you need to cut a lot and very carefully. Feathers are needed for wings, torso, tail and neck. To make the feathers look beautiful, shape the edges with fringe or cloves, and draw an “eye” in the center.

- The beak is made of two triangles cut from the neck of the container. It can be of any size, it all depends on the body and head.

- The paws are made from the necks of small bottles, solid wire or scraps of plastic pipes.

- The tail plumage is attached to the prepared piece of linoleum. The magnitude of your peacock will depend on the number of spent tanks.

When all the parts are ready, proceed to painting. Carefully paint over all the feathers and start attaching them to the base, laying on top of each other.

Making a peacock figure for a garden is a really long and laborious job, but your efforts will not go unnoticed. This sculpture will delight you for a long time and make a splash among the guests.

Curtains and garlands

These are extremely interesting and original elements for your decor, which do not require special material costs, but at the same time they will look great in any interior.

To create these curtains, you need to prepare a large number of small bottles, 0.5 l or less. In addition to this, you need to stock up with a sharp knife, wire or fishing line, scissors. You can also use clean sand and a pan, but more on that later.

First cut the bottoms with a knife. Next, trim the edges with scissors. If you have prepared sand, heat it in a pan, and then literally for a couple of seconds, place the bottom with the cut side in it. Thus, you will align the edges of the workpiece as much as possible and get a really beautiful craft.

When all the blanks are ready, you can proceed to the next step. Connect all the parts with a thin wire or fishing line.

Adding the usual garland for the Christmas tree to the finished canvas, you will receive an original product that will delight you all year round. Use the LED garland, its lamps do not heat up, and the lights are located at the same distance.

Similarly, you can make a curtain, a partition or a garland. It all depends on your creative mood.

We advise you to use transparent containers so that your product looks as interesting as possible, but you can also take colored bottles.From the combined transparent and multi-colored bases, you can get quite unusual and original products.
