Italian house with English history

Italian house with English history

An interesting task was assigned to the designers of United Decor by the customers of this project. The house for which it was necessary to develop a design is located in a rural village with cottages of Italian architecture. The difficulty was that the customers, as the first meeting with them showed, unanimously sought to embody the English style in the interior. This conflicted with the exterior of the cottage, but the designers found an elegant way out.

A whole story was invented combining both concepts: an English family bought a villa in northern Italy, while maintaining architecture and interior decoration, and brought English furniture with it. The subtle point was the risk of going into historicism, but in the end the interior was made modern and at the same time withstood the atmosphere.

On the floor appeared tile with the texture of travertine, on the walls - Italian, as if slightly peeling over time plaster. For contrast, the fireplace in the living room area is emphasized modern and seems to dissolve against the background of the wall.

The layout of the house was dictated by its architecture and lifestyle in a suburban residence. From the small entrance hall, double-glass glass doors lead to the hall of the first floor. This solemn room with a checkerboard layout of tiles, Tuscan red walls and a massive stucco molding sets the scale and mood of the whole house. Its contrast with the light finish of the combined kitchen-living room fulfills the main wish of the owner of the house - to create a feeling of spaciousness and air.

The furniture in the whole house is a mixture of motives of the two countries: the soft group in the living room area is English in shape, and in the textile, along with the boulette and wool, silk with a damask pattern was used. Wooden English cuisine is combined with Italian tiles and chocolate-golden granite. In the bedroom, the head of the bed has decorative shapes typical of Italy, while the niches are decorated with wallpaper by William Morris. Incredible combinations continue in the bathroom: Carrara marble coexists perfectly with English plumbing.

The harmony of this house is built on such contradictions: in spite of everything, the interior gives the impression of a single and unique ensemble in nature.
