Plinth for stretch ceiling: 80 photo ideas

When finishing the ceiling with a tension film, a gap of 7–8 mm remains between the wall and the canvas. To hide this not too aesthetic detail of the interior, special plinths (baguettes) are used, which are presented on the market in a large assortment. How to choose a skirting board for a stretch ceiling will be described below, and numerous photos will help you navigate the decorative qualities of its various types.

Types of skirting boards for stretch ceilings

Manufacturers of ceiling film recommend closing the joints along the perimeter with a rubberized molding (masking tape). This is a kind of flexible plug, which is attached to the metal profile with the help of a T-, F- or L-shaped groove. Such tapes are available in a huge number of colors, but, as a rule, have a simple smooth texture.

Elastic fillets

Easy to install and remove by hand, without any additional tools and glue. Easy installation, including along oval or wavy lines, is the main advantage of narrow rubber inserts. But in terms of decorative properties, they are somewhat inferior to more voluminous skirting boards made of foam, plastic and polyurethane, which create an interesting transition between the planes of the ceiling and walls.

Plastic cornice

Because of its rigidity, it is only suitable for rooms with perfectly even walls. Otherwise, he will only emphasize all the flaws. Skirting boards of this type are used mainly in rooms with high humidity and often come complete with plastic panels for walls. They are fixed with screws or screws to the bearing profile of the ceiling. This is an inexpensive and practical option for the bathroom or kitchen, where the foam can quickly turn yellow, and polyurethane products will be excessive luxury.

Styrofoam Borders

The most budgetary way to seal joints on the ceiling. The low weight of the material greatly simplifies the fastening - just purchase a special adhesive that does not contain solvents and stick the elements to the top of the walls. The surface in contact with the film must remain clean. After drying, the foam plastic friezes can be puttied in the places of cuts and painted with water-based paint - this way they are more accurate.

Polyurethane baseboards

They differ from the ceiling tape in greater width and lack of internal fasteners, but they are not inferior to them in elasticity at all. A significant weight of rubber strips complicates the process of fixing them on the walls - you have to use the most strong glue, liquid nails or even self-tapping screws. Such fillets cannot hold on top of the wallpaper, which leaves its mark on the design of the room as a whole. At the same time, polyurethane baguettes best imitate luxurious gypsum stucco, repeat the unique texture of expensive tree species and realistically convey the luster of gilding.

Wooden cornices

In combination with stretch ceilings are rarely used. Firstly, it is difficult to fasten them only to the walls without touching the PVC film, and the curvature of the surface does not facilitate the task. Secondly, over time, natural material inevitably deforms - dries out, bends and cracks. This type of finish is suitable for suburban interiors, and the stretch fabric in this case should be matte and better if it is not a PVC film, but a fabric.

Decorative cord

This is not exactly a baseboard, but is often used to seal the gap between the stretch ceiling and walls.Interesting interweaving of threads of 2–4 colors, often with shiny metal inserts, looks simply delightful among the classic, oriental and rustic motifs of room decoration.

You can buy a beautiful rope of the required diameter (optimally 10-12 mm) in any curtain or sewing materials store, and then you just have to “press” it with a spatula into the gap and glue it with a thermal gun in the places of bends.

Backlit skirting boards

LED lighting around the perimeter of the stretch ceiling is an integral attribute of most modern interiors. This is a rather spectacular technique that allows you to visually increase the height of the room and make it lighter. As a rule, the cornice for highlighting is chosen in white with a smooth texture and is fixed after the luminous tape has been glued closer to the stretch fabric. Diodes can be chosen in any shade, there are also options with iridescent colors and different modes of operation (like Christmas tree garlands).

The most common type of backlit baguettes are polyurethane with the most presentable appearance. However, the material of the ceiling plinth does not matter much - the main thing is that it hangs firmly on the wall just below the light strip. And yet there are special models for hidden lighting - they have a recess for mounting a diode strip or a neon tube, which is very convenient when creating an ideal repair.

How to choose a ceiling plinth?

At first glance, it might seem that the design of the ceiling around the perimeter does not have a big impact on the design. But such an opinion is erroneous - at the junction of horizontal and vertical planes the visual border of the room passes, which means that it is simply necessary to create a decent frame there. A ceiling-mounted baguette can be compared to a frame, without which even the most beautiful picture looks unfinished. In this case, the interior is an artistic masterpiece, under which the frame should be selected.

According to the general rule, the higher and more spacious the room, the wider and more noticeable the moldings should be. At the same time, it is necessary to maintain balance, choosing smooth elements for richly decorated walls and ceilings, and luxurious stucco molding - for plain ones. It is good if the colors, drawings or patterns of baguettes overlap with any vertical lines - columns, arches, portals, wall panels.

For different variations of the classical style, snow-white polyurethane skirtings with exquisite curls reminiscent of the alabaster decorations of antique halls are suitable. Gilding would be appropriate, but not solid, but in the form of subtle elements on a white matte background.

If you choose a discreet English style inherent in classrooms, libraries and guest rooms, it is recommended to use a cornice with the texture of mahogany, varnished. It can be imitation of carving, gold inserts - the main thing is that everything together resembles a rich salon of the late 19th - early 20th century.

Although in ethnic and rural areas of design, a stretch ceiling is an exception rather than a rule, its matte or fabric perimeter options can be supplemented with skirting boards made of wood or polymer imitation of available species - pine, ash, alder, etc.

Simple white inserts are ideal for most modern trends, such as minimalism, high-tech, loft. In Provence and the Scandinavian style, ceiling baguettes are absent as such, but bleached decorative beams made of wood or polyurethane can be found.
